Everyone has one. Or two or three. At least, everyone who is serious about learning to play the violin or fiddle should have.
What’s your violin dream tune?
Dream tunes keep us motivated by giving us something to shoot for. Your true dream tunes provide the absolutely essential emotional juice to keep going when it’s hard.
To have the most motivational power your dream tune should be accessible within 1-2 years. You need to believe you can really learn to play it in a reasonable amount of time. Even when life happens.
Here are some dream tunes that people a lot like you are learning: | And I’ve created custom tutorials for others, including: |
-Meditation -Pachelbel Canon -Ashokan Farewell -Bach Double Violin Concerto -Bach Concerto in E Major -Bach Air in G -Jerusalem Ridge -Dust in the Wind |
-Uncle Penn -Devil Went Down to Georgia -Dream On (Aerosmith) -King of the Faeries -Jolie Blond -Christian hymns -Blue Moon of Kentucky -Black Water (Doobie Brothers) -Cherokee Shuffle |
Your dream tune could be next
My tutorial kits take 5-8 hours to create and contain everything you need to learn to play the song:
- Instructional video to show you technique and walk you through trouble spots
- Slow, medium, and fast play-along videos
- Sheet music (unless forbidden by copyright)
- Maybe more, depending on the tune
So click here to check out my violin and fiddle tutorial kits for popular songs. I hope you find a kit that you fancy so that you can get started with a good goal!
Lora;
I recently purchased your tutorial for Dust in the Wind! It was a wonderful tutorial and well worth the money. I would love to learn Kashmir which has been done by so many symphonies and is a verrrrry popular song. There is also a CD called unledded which was recorded with a symphony. I found a tutorial online by a gentleman but thought this would definitely be a song I would purchase along with (what i am sure) many others would love to learn,
Regards,
Maggie
Hi Margret
Thanks for supporting my work by purchasing Dust! I play that tune with my band all the time and audiences absolutely love it.
I know of the song Kashmir…..I intend to learn it with my band……hey, Maggie, can you send me a link to your favorite rendition of it? I bet there are tons of versions on Youtube.
I have to finish creating the custom kits I promised to new sign ups, but after that, I’d love to tackle this one!
Howdy Lora
I am at unit 7 in fiddle class, and learn a lot, even I am a slow learner;) It is so many tunes that I want to learn! Recently I have fall in love with 2 tunes “Cattle in the Corn” and “Cluck Old Hen”, so today these are my first priorities beside of the fiddle class.
My dream tune to learn before end 2016 is ” Jerusalem ridge”.
Tanks for all and love to become a student.
Best regards
Boerge
Hi Boerge! Do you know that Lora has a Jerusalem Ridge tutorial available? Check it out here: http://www.reddesertviolin.com/tune-tutorials/#jerusalem
Howdy Joe
I didn’t know that, I will check out the link.
Thanks a lot
I’m halfway through the fiddle course and loving it! Getting SO MUCH out of it. My dream tune is obscure for sure, but awesome. Its called “last legs” by a band called Blackbird Raum. (its on youtube) I would definitely be willing to pay for a tutorial on it!
Hi Sarah!
I just listened to “Last Legs”. I couldn’t tear myself away! Then I watched more by them. Really cool music.
I LOVE that the fiddle is TOTALLY the dominant instrument in Last Legs.
Let’s touch base on this after I get the other tutorials done…..that is going to be a monumental task, and I have to focus my efforts there until it’s done. (July/August)
Remind me in August! Totally cool tune!
Hi! Just checked back after SO long! Any way this is still on the horizon for me? It is a great tune, would be willing to pay for it for sure!
Hi Sarah
I would love to have time to create dream tune tutorials for people again someday soon.
A custom kit costs a minimum of $80….and that’s if it’s a pretty simple straightforward tune.
At this time, I do not have time to do any additional projects! I am hell-bent to get Suzuki Book 4 and a children’s fiddle class completed by mid-2018.
What exactly did you want for this kit? Video? Slow playalong? Sheet music? Audio? Tell me what your hopes/needs are, and maybe we can figure something out!
And which SONG by Blackbird Raum?
I have just signed up for Suzuki 2 so I can take advantage of this generous offer even though I won’t be moving onto it for a while.
I am so excited ????
Kind regards
Chris
Hi Lora, I have signed up for Suzuki 1 and plan to do Suzuki 2. My dream tune would be Meditation even though I am a long way from that at the moment. I am really enjoying your lessons and feel like I am achieving heaps already.
Many thanks
Kind regards
Chris
Hi again Lora,
In my excitement I forgot to mention that my dream tune “Hello” by Adele can be found on YouTube JunCurryAhn Violin Cover. Thanks. April
Hi Lora,
I’m enrolled in both your Suzuki Book 2 and Fiddle classes. Would like to learn “Hello” by Adele. I think your videos are absolutely great and your teaching method is spot on. My playing has really improved. I have recommended you to a youngster who is just beginning. Thanks ever so much for all your effort and hard work in creating these programs.
Sincerely,
April
Hi Lora, I’m enrolled in your Suzuki 2 class. I have one more month before the end of the class. So I wasn’t going to enroll in Suzuki 3 until Suzuki 2 is finished in the end of May. This has sweetened the deal a lot. I have a song that I would like to learn. You can find the cover version on youtube. It’s called, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” (Violin Cover) by iMusico Looks like he plays a lot of it in 3rd position which is Suzuki book 3 I believe you’ll be teaching 3rd position in the book? I’ve been playing violin for almost two years now, I also play piano, guitar and Ukulele, so I think I can learn this.
David, I just listened to it. Beautiful! I can see why you love it. It is definitely within your reach, if you are nearing the end of Suzuki 2. Go ahead and sign up for Suzuki 3 before May 25 so you will secure your custom kit bonus!
So, I definitely have a dream tune. But not a terribly mainstream one. There is sheet music for it (which I bought), but it’s a fairly long song.
I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask, right? The song I desperately want to learn is called Fairie Queen, by Heather Alexander. I’m not really ready for it yet, but it is what I’m aiming for. (I put the address in the website spot)
It’s a different take on The Devil Went Down to Georgia (which I’m sure you’ll realise once you listen).
Thank you!
Nice selection Carry! You should be hearing from my assistant in the next few days.
Hi Lora,
My dream tune is “Say, Darlin’ Say” as played by Bruce Molsky in the YouTube video titled “Old-Time Fiddlin’ Tips” by Bruce Molsky. I haven’t been able to find a version I like as much as his nor any other recording of the tune played by Bruce Molsky. I am also not sure of the difficulty level compared with the music you mentioned. Thus, I am not sure if my dream tune meets your requirements. (I am at the beginning of Suzuki Book 2.)
I just saw your sign-up come through, Bridgett! Will love to do the Molsky tune. He can make you dance whether you want to or not!
Hi Lora,
I recently signed up for the fiddle class and previously fiddle secrets. I signed up for the fiddle course less then a month ago so if the offer is somewhat retroactive my choice for a dream tune would be “The Gael”, which was the theme to the movie Last of the Mohicans. It’s ironic your offer would show up today as I just downloaded music for the song and was trying to figure it out.
If your offer is only for new students it’s not a problem The tools you are providing will low me to figure the song out eventually.
Kind regards
Rik Stavale
Great tune! You should be hearing from my assistant in the next few days.
I would love to take lessons from you but I’m not an Irish player and I don’t really care for that music.
Hi Vickie. Only one of my classes (the fiddle class) has some Irish songs in it. You might want to take a look at one of the Suzuki classes shown in the links above.
Lora,
i just signed up for Book 3 even though I am not anywhere near completing book 2 just so i could get the offer for the tune. I choose Meditation as my tune. I am working on it know and can play more than less but I am lacking technique as you can probably understand! Thanks on the offer.
I LOVE Meditation! Great choice!
Hi Lora,
I’m already signed on for Suzuki Bbok 3 and both vibrato videos, so don’t know if I apply.
However, Somewhere Over The Raimbow qould be my choice. Intermediate to advanced.
Regards,
Denis McNulty
